Offshore drilling? I say go for it. The problem of rising gas prices has been a big debate in this years presidential election. Both candidates have been questioned on whether or not they agree with this proposition. McCain is for it and Obama is undecided.
Will this negatively effect the number of Obama's votes? Maybe and maybe not. Many Americans today struggle over rising gas prices. It has a huge effect on people's everyday lives. Citizens are quitting jobs because the transportation to and from work is too costly. Most Americans no longer go on vacation because of the price of fuel. Kids cannot enjoy doing one day trips with their families anymore because of this issue.
McCain hopes that offshore drilling will be the answer to lowering the cost of fuel. America will no longer have to worry about shipping gas from other countries, it will be right in our backyard. Another plus to the issue of offshore drilling is that America will no longer be dependant on foreign countries for fuel. Think about it, if the countries threatened to take away the fuel what would happen to us? We would be completely lost without it. McCain has the right idea for agreeing with this.

Nice post. I like how you've singled out an issue and taken a stand. How might you react to say that drilling only prolongs the problem and will take years to impact prices at the pump?
Offshore drilling would be great if we actually saw the benefits in a short amount of time. However, we will not be seeing revenue from any offshore drilling until after 2020 at the earliest. I have even heard estimates of 2030. While it would be great for America to not have to worry about foreign fuel, even if we had our own, that does not change how oil will eventually run out. The idea is to find a sustainable method of energy that isn't oil to cure America of it's need for all oil, domestic and abroad. Simply drilling off our shores will not solve the problem, only worsen our need for different energy when we run out. I can understand the why the Republican sides want to drill, and while I am not totally opposed to it, there is more to the issue than simply digging a hole and getting some oil.
